Rosegg is the name of the nearby Feistritztalbahn train station, which was just a few minutes’ walk from our farm. The narrow-gauge railway once ran from Weiz through Birkfeld to the mining village of Ratten, and it is hoped that it will continue to operate as a scenic train on certain sections. The Rosegg cardboard factory had also been in operation there since 1902; the site is now home to the GIZ Rosegg commercial and industrial center.

The history of the farm likely dates back to the time of the resettlement and clearing of the area, with the establishment of the Frondsberg domain and castle, which was built in the first half of the 13th century. The farm’s history can be traced continuously from the * 10.2.1772 * to the present day, beginning with the marriage of Jakob Schloffer—known locally as “Jagl in der Grub”—to Anna Stainer. The farm remained in the Schloffer family’s possession until the grandfather of the current owner, known locally as “Franzl in der Grub.”
The farm is situated in the middle of its 27-hectare property, and the steep, amphitheater-like terrain explains the estate’s local name, “In der Grub.”
In 1999, the house was rebuilt on the foundation walls and the old cellar vault of the former smokehouse using traditional log-cabin construction techniques and incorporating existing structural elements; it now houses three apartments.
A fourth apartment is available in the “Kellerstöckl,” built on top of the vaulted cellar of a former wine press house.

The location also serves as a good starting point for reaching the Sommeralm and Teichalm via the pilgrimage site of Heilbrunn, or for exploring the north side of Graz’s local mountain, the Schöckl.
