It has a large harbour with a 462-metre-long pier, the longest on Lake Balaton. On this promenade, holidaymakers can watch the numerous amateur anglers or enjoy the magnificent panorama of the lake. The beautiful sunset is of course an unforgettable experience, and the town centre of Fonyod offers numerous shopping opportunities. Restaurants, bureaux de change, pharmacies, pastry shops and discos are also available to holidaymakers. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is the popular Fonyod jumper market, which owes its name to the sale of numerous jumpers in the 1970s. Today, the offer is diverse. It ranges from ceramics, basketry, clothing and recordings to the most unusual souvenir items, and the public beach in Fonyod is free of charge, as everywhere else on Lake Balaton. However, Fonyod is particularly popular because of the large number of nearby excursion destinations that offer a varied holiday programme. Tourists who don't just want to lie on the beach, but are particularly interested in the landscape and culture of the country, will certainly get their money's worth here in Fonyod.for hiking enthusiasts, the surrounding mountains are interesting excursion destinations from which you have a wonderful view of Lake Balaton. A hiking trail leads to Csillagvar Castle. Also worth seeing are the remains of the border castle with the memorial column of the castle captain Balint Polonai Magyar, who achieved fame during the Turkish wars. half-hourly excursion boats run from Fonyoder harbour to the north side. We particularly recommend a trip to Badacsony, from whose vineyard you can enjoy a marvellous panorama of Lake Balaton. Numerous wine taverns on the slopes of the hill invite you to linger and savour the wine. Please note, however, that the excursion boats no longer sail in the late evening! The atmosphere on the return trips of the last excursion boats is understandably usually quite cheerful and exuberant, and a visit to a spa is also an unforgettable experience for many tourists. The most popular and best-known thermal baths in the region are the natural thermal forest lake in Heviz with a temperature of 35 degrees Celsius, the thermal bath in Zalakaros and the thermal bath in Csisztapuszta, which can even be reached by a narrow-gauge railway from Fonyod. The thermal baths usually also offer massages and therapeutic treatments, and on less sunny days a trip to Keszthely is also recommended. In addition to many shopping opportunities, you can visit the baroque castle here, which was once the residence of Count Festetics. Its impressively extensive library is particularly worth a visit.
